2022

Dr. Angélica García Pérez, PhD in Biochemistry in 2018 at FU Berlin, has been working in the fields of stem cell biology, gene editing and disease modelling for more than 10 years between Spain, Germany and USA. During early stages of her career, she studied several autoimmune diseases and worked with generating different types of cardiac cells seeking to develop a ‚biological pacemaker‘. During that time, she became fascinated about the complexity of tissues and organs formation and how tissue engineering can be used to resemble these processes and study different diseases. Currently, the main focus of her work is to use neuromuscular organoids to understand the mechanism of complex diseases such as Spinal Muscular Atrophy. She has presented her work in a broad variety of scientific, medical and public events, bringing her to win the price for Best Scientific Communication at the Science Slam during the 2019 Berlin Science Week. https://www.mdc-berlin.de/gouti
