Event Picks: After Hour

Wissenschaft ist langweilig und abgehoben?! Mit diesen Events beweisen wir das Gegenteil! Ob künstlerische Interventionen, immersive Vorträge oder rege Barabende – es gibt einiges in der Stadt zu erleben. Dabei sind die meisten Veranstaltungen im Abendformat und lassen sich gut zum Feierabend genießen.

 

Kreuzberg/ Neukölln

  1. 1 Nov, 19.00 – 21.00: Springer Nature Storytellers | Prachtwerk 

Join Springer Nature and our partners at The Story Collider for a fun evening of stories told by researchers themselves. Inspirational, captivating, and definitely surprising, you will have an opportunity to hear about and connect with the experiences of experts on the cutting edge of their respective fields.

  1. 1–6 Nov, 16.00 – 20.00: Haptic Hortus | Studio Nagelneu/ Prinzessinengärten

The multi sensorial installation „Haptic Hortus“ brings stories and experiences of encounters between plants and humans at the Botanical Gardens Berlin to a downtown site that holds complex histories of touch, too: a former nail salon right next to the urban gardening collective Prinzessinnengärten. 

  1. 2 – 6 Nov, 17.00 + 20.00: machina eX – Live Goes on | HAU 3 – Hebbel am Ufer

Das multimediale Brettspiel nimmt das Publikum auf einen Ausflug in die deutsch-deutsche Vergangenheit mit, bei dem der Spieltisch nicht verlassen werden muss. Mit Spielplänen, umfunktionierten Smartphones, Kopfhörern und Ereigniskarten erschaffen sich die Spieler:innen ihre eigene ostdeutsches Stadt, das nach der Vorstellung zusammengelegt und zuhause neu aufgebaut werden kann.

  1. 4 Nov, 17.00 – 20.00: Quantum Physics Meets Contemporary Artistic Practice | Studio Roman Lipski

The open studio and art exhibition will bring together the scientists’ and artists’ perspectives on phenomena in quantum physics. 

  1. 4–10 Nov, from 10.00 – 20.00: Chom5ky vs Chomsky | KINDL – Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst

It is not so much an exhibition project, but rather an engaging virtual reality experience shared by visitors, inviting them to explore the promises and possibilities as well as the obstacles, pitfalls and risks of AI, and to critically question the automation of intelligent human behaviour.

  1. 9 Nov, 20.00 – 23.00: Science Notes – Künstliche Intelligenz | SO36

Künstliche Intelligenz ist allgegenwärtig. Sie steckt in unseren Smartphones und Staubsaugern, sie hat aber auch in Kunst und Kultur Einzug gehalten. Bei den Science Notes wollen wir die Rolle von Künstlicher Intelligenz in Kunst und Musik beleuchten und die ethischen Auswirkungen der Technologie erkunden.

The combination of neuroscience, architecture and immersive tools allows researchers to understand what human-friendly cities look like and architects to design them. Join the Einstein Foundation to a full immersive 360° presentation about navigation, space and the perception of the urban environment.

  1. 2 + 4 Nov, 18.00 – 19.30: DISSECT | Tieranatomisches Theater

Join the Cluster of Excellence »Matters of Activity« as they aim to restore more lively forms of exchange than the so-called »roundtable«. Dissect is an updated theatre for the analysis and discussion of contemporary works of art and design in the presence of the works. 

  1. 4 Nov, 20.00 – 21.30: Machined Music | CAMPUS @ Museum für Naturkunde 

Friday night at the Natural History Museum? Join this deep-dive discussion by the Science Gallery Berlin about the automatization of music, which will be followed by a performance by electronic musician Moisés Horta Valenzuela utilizing some of the techniques discussed.

  1. 8 Nov, 19.00 – 21.00: Science in the Pub: Let’s Talk Social Cohesion | Club der Polnischen Versager

What is it that holds communities together? What separates them? Julia Elad-Strenger, Political Psychologist at Bar-Ilan University in Israel and Richard Mole, Sociologist from University College London, will share insights from their research on Social Cohesion. While presenting their findings, they want to hear your opinions, be challenged by your perspectives, and learn from your questions.

You can’t make it to the Planetarium on 2 Nov? No, worries you get another chance. The Project Kopfkino invites you to come and take a seat inside their very own immersive Neuro-Space Dome. Immerse yourself in an exclusive experience!

  1. 9 Nov, 20.00 – 22.00: Science Slam im Planetarium | Zeiss-Großplanetarium

Junge Wissenschaftler:innen verlassen die Labore und Hörsäle und präsentieren geballte Wissenschaft in 10 Minuten, verpackt in spannenden und anschaulichen Vorträgen. Lernen mit Unterhaltung garantiert! 

  1. 10 Nov, 19.30 – 22.00: Clear the Stage for Science – the Science Slam of the Berlin Clusters of Excellence | Roadrunner’s Paradise

One Science Slam is not enough! Experience scientist from the Cluster of Excellence  as they try everything to entertain their audience, regardless of whether the subject is e.g. mathematics, neuroscience or active material. The sky is the limit when it comes to what’s possible. Costumes, props, movies, power-point presentations or other experimental setups – it is all allowed. Only time sets the limits – every slammer will have ten minutes at most. And the audience will decide which presentation is best!

  1. 2 Nov, 18.30 – 22.00: Programmed Discrimination | Filmkunst66

Watch the widely acclaimed documentary “Coded Bias” which uncovers how algorithms are only as free of bias as the data they are fed. The screening will be followed by a discussion led by the EDCF, WI and HIIG which will discuss (potentially) discriminatory algorithms and other dangers of digital technologies.

  1. 3 Nov, 16.00 – 19.00: Kommunen gestalten – Das Planspiel zur Nährstoffwende | TU Berlin

Welchen Impact können Trockentoiletten haben? Die HNEE lädt ein spielerisch die Nährstoffwende auf kommunaler Ebene zu gestalten. Die Ergebnisse und Erfahrungen fließen in die reale Umsetzung des Projektes ein und werden dabei helfen Kommunen nachhaltiger zu gestalten.

  1. 5 + 6 Nov, 12.00 – 14.00: Architektur und Nachnutzung: Vom Flughafen zur Stadt der Zukunft | Urban Tech Republic

Der Flughafen Tegel ist geschlossen. Seine Geschichte als Airport ist zwar geschrieben, doch wird mit der künftigen Entwicklung des Areals zum Zukunftsort zugleich ein neues Kapitel aufgeschlagen. Das Führungsangebot auf dem ehemaligen Flughafen lädt alle Interessierten dazu ein, den Ort aus neuer Perspektive zu erleben und Unbekanntes zu entdecken.

Mit Elevator-Pitches, wissenschaftlichem Crosstalk zwischen Fischforschern und Quantenmenschen, Wildtieren, Kristallen, pharmakologischer Forschung, Mathe und ultrakurzen Laserpulsen präsentiert der Forschungsverbund Berlin seine vielfältigen Forschungsfelder. Zum Schluss des Tages wird entscheidet beim Powerpoint-Karaoke entschieden welches Institut gewinnt!

  1. 9 Nov, 17.00 – 22.00: Cooking for the Mircobiome | Pastamadre

Science meets Art-of-Cooking: Join the MDC for an evening at “Pastamadre”, where scientists join forces with fermentation artisans to bring you the latest from microbiome research, food chemistry and healthy eating.
